First page listing on Google at a surprisingly low price



First page listing on Google is critical for businesses to find new customers at little or no cost. What is required, for first page listing on Google, is a website with content relevant to your business.

WHY SHOULD YOU BELIEVE US?

That is why we have developed this blog. When we were preparing to enter this highly competitive yet little understood business, we developed a complete case – composed of websites and blogs which would rank well on Google. By well, we meant on the first or second page of Google. When somebody is seriously searching for something on Google, they usually do not go beyond the first two pages. So your website should rank on the 1st or 2nd page. Otherwise it serves no business purpose, howsoever content rich or flashy it might be, and whatever the cost of developing it.

We selected the segment of “Advertising Education” and tried to create sites and blogs, each optimised for a different keyword within this segment.

The first website we built is www.theadvertisingcollege.co.in. Today it ranks within the first three pages of Google for keywords “Advertising College India”, “Advertising Colleges in India”, “College of Advertising India”, “College Advertising in India” and a lot of other variants.


The learning we derived out of developing this website was that several things matter as far as Google listing or ranking is concerned, especially if you want to rank quickly (within a week of launching your website):

a) The name of the website. It is critical that the keywords or key phrase you are optimising your website for, are present in the website name itself. It does not matter if the website name becomes long or it is part of a sub domain (blogger and word press are domains on which you can create your website, hence your site is a “sub domain” on these domains). For example, if you think your site should list for “short term advertising course”, be sure that your website name contains these words or phrase. We created two websites with the phrase “short term advertising course” in the site name. Today, one ranks on the second page of Google for the aforementioned phrase, and the other one on top of the third page.



b) The site descriptor is the other critical element. There has to be consistency between the site name and site descriptor. The keywords or key phrase should be similar in both. In our experience, this is one element, which if attended to properly, always yields results.

c) The opening paragraph, or the first few sentences, is also critical. In fact you could say that the site name, site descriptor and opening sentences form a troika that determine the ranking of your website. It also means that one website (contrary to what a lot of people say and write) can be optimised for a single key phrase or specific set of keywords only.

d) In our experience, building your site or blog as a sub domain has its advantages. WordPress sites are very quick to list on Google, provided you pay attention to other things. Blogspot sites take time, but once they list, they remain there forever.

Of course, a lot also depends on what key words you are trying to optimise your website for, and the amount of traffic or competition for those keywords. The more the traffic, the more Google would be eager to index the new content generated, and better the chance for your website to make its mark.

The other thing is that you have to be patient. Overnight ranking is almost impossible. It takes at least a week for your website to appear on the initial pages on Google, and a month or two for your website to fully stabilise on Google. However, once it does, it remains there for a long time, even years. For some reason, Google is partial to old websites.

And yes, Google loves Facebook it seems. Your Facebook company page is highly likely to show up on the first page of Google provided you follow all the rules. Our facebook page, created about 10 days ago, called www.facebook.com/businesswebsitesthatrankwellongoogle ranks on the first page of Google for the key phrase “business websites rank well Google”. RELEVANCE ALSO MATTERSRanking is not everything. When a person is searching hard on Google for a solution, he is likely to search at least the first three pages. So if you are there on the third page you still have a good chance of attracting the customer. The question is: do you have content that is relevant and specific to him? Most SEO (Search Engine Optimisers) promise “guaranteed” first page ranking. You should know that this is well-nigh impossible. Google makes frequent changes to its algorithm. It is highly, highly unlikely if anyone out there knows a sure fire or guaranteed way of ranking on the first page. Rather, you should aim at creating a relevant website for your business and aim to be within the first three pages. It is equally important to create relevance for your customers.

The reader or person with the query has very little time. He is in a hurry to find out the solution to his problem. Therefore, the more SPECIFIC you are, the better it is. The web or Google is not the place to use flowery or highfalutin language. BE SIMPLE. BE SPECIFIC. BE RELEVANT. And remember, Google looks at text for its ranking. It is the written word, or the right content that will take you there.

CREATING YOUR ADVERTISEMENT ON GOOGLE PAGE: RICH SNIPPETGoogle gives us only three lines. The header – so choose your website name and descriptor with care. The sub header, which lists your website address. And the two line descriptor called “rich snippet”. This is very crucial because you have to describe your business in two lines or 30 odd words. If you look below, I have described my business (it is not a real business, please note) as “Advertising college India offers weekend courses in Advertising, Public Relations & Event Management. Short term courses with long term impact“. Now this is as precise as one can get. Attention grabbed. Query solved.



BONUS KEYWORDS
Further, as your website spends time on Google, you find it gets optimised for a lot of keywords that you did not plan for. That is always a good thing. Listing on Google is our ultimate aim. And if there are some keywords that come as bonus, they are worth their weight in gold. Here is an example.

We made a blog called http://oyeithappensonlyinindia.blogspot.com. Sometime back we discovered that it ranks as the first site under “Fantastic Names India” key phrase.



Which brings us to the key question. Why is the web so important?

WEB MEANS BIG BUSINESS

The internet or web is an infinitely powerful tool. A lot of us do not appreciate the power of it. Let us take a look at some recently published syndicated data.



As you can see, in July 2012, there were 124.7 million or 12.47 crore Indians using the web in some form or the other. Not just that, the rise in one year, July 2011 to 2012, has been a phenomenal 41%. Further, 75% of the internet audience in India is aged 35 years and below, promising to make it the youngest online population in the coming years. Females form 39.3% of the total audience, and the sharpest growth is observed among male and female segments in the age-group 15 to 24.



Almost all categories on the web are growing. And remember, the base is more than 12 crores, which is bigger than the cumulative reach of newspapers. Just think about it.



Not surprisingly, Google and Facebook top the list of most popular websites. If you are not on Google, your business is not there. It’s as simple as that.



Now we come to Social Networks. Naturally, Facebook dominates the scene in India with 52 million or 5.2 crore people using it. All these are huge numbers that indicate how the web is the preferred medium in India now.



The other quiet revolution has been the access of web through mobile phones, which now has overtaken access through desktops or laptops.

Now what does it all mean for your business? What is the relevance of 59.7 million or almost 6 crore unique visitors coming to Google? Or the fact that the no. of unique visitors to Google has gone up by 39% in one year. Taken on an yearly basis, even if 1% of these were interested in the category of business you are in, that would translate to 6 lakhs. Just think about it. 6 lakhs, from across India. Now if even 0.1% of it were to be your buyers, it would translate to 600 new customers for you in one year.

EFFECTIVE BUSINESS WEBSITES


A website is a website. What is the difference? If you think about it, there is a world of difference. An effective business website is neither too long nor too short. It is built to a plan. Which means it contains “relevant” and “specific” content. Let’s take an example. You are in the business of supplying executive chairs. And your name is “Neelkamal Executive Chairs”. Naturally, there will be an inclination to call your website http://www.neelkamalexecutivechairs.com or something like that. This is where the problem begins. Your whole approach has to be consumer centric, or in this case, enquiry centric.

The other fallacy seems to about creating “exotic” sites with a lot of graphics, audio and video. That could be counter-productive, as the search engines base their rankings purely on the basis of text. So maybe your site is good looking with a lot of flashy graphics and videos, but that has got nothing to do with it being an effective business website. We believe that effective business websites are the ones that help grow your business. Period.
